Dollars for Scholars 10K

So, the annual Dollars for Scholars 10K run was last Friday.. at 6:00 and 85 degree heat! I had high expectations, I knew I'd be making around 45ish minutes because that's what I'd been training for, and was ready to blow my time from last year (1:00:12) out of the water... unfortunately I forgot about the heat. I ended up walking. Twice. The course was a double loop, once for the 5K-ers and two for the 10K-ers. I had to walk at about 4.5 miles, and then again at 5. I was NOT happy. I didn't walk for long, just enough to catch my breath and not hyperventilate.. I almost passed out once before one summer because I got too hot... that was really scary. I had no phone on me and was about 5 miles away from home.. I never want to feel like that again. My time ended up being right at 55 minutes... at least I beat my last time I guess. Stupid heat!!!! My 1/2 marathon pace was faster than that! Grrrr.....

Heat will definitely change what pace you can run, that's for sure. Still, good job lowering your time from the previous year!

Great job on beating your previous time, especially with that HEAT!!
